The Pillar of the Craft ($50)

Purpose

The Pillar of the Craft Honorary Degree is the second degree that can be earned thru the Maryland Masonic Academy. The fee for Pillar of the Craft is $50 and is payable on line by credit card prior to beginning the program. Upon completion, you will be eligible for a patent for Pillar of the Craft.

The Pillar of the Craft consists of two sections. In order to complete the Pillar of the Craft, both sections must be completed. The first section is the online portion which is set up similarly to the Fellow of the Craft. The second section (the “Arch Presentation”) consists of a presentation that is given in your lodge (with a member of the King Solomon Society present) or in the Maryland Lodge of Research

Part 1 - Online

In the 1st part, there are 6 modules and corresponding online tests.  However, since this is the next higher course, we raise (see what I did there?) the requirements for passing (oooohhhhh......boom! another one!).  Now, you have to earn a 90% to pass......but don't worry.....you still get as many chances as you need!

These sections are named after the 5 Orders of Architecture (man....full of references today!). Tuscan, Doric, Ionic, Corinthian, and Composite 1 and Composite 2.

The Tuscan module requires the  Constitution and Landmarks (free in the Portal)

The Doric module: Maryland Masonic Manual and Symbolism Reading (supplied on Module).

The Ionic module: Book of Public Ceremonies (available from the Lodge Secretary for $15)

The Corinthian Module: Idiot's Guide to Freemasonry (Either 1st or 2nd Edition, available on Amazon.com or from Grand Lodge)

The Composite Module Part 1: Operative Freemasonry: A Manual for Restoring Light and Vitality to the Fraternity (White, Kirk C.) (available on Amazon.com)

The Composite Module Part 2: Lodge Leadership: A 5 Step Guide to Masonic Reform (Nelson, Matt) (available on the Maryland Masonic Portal under "Resources")

Part 2 - Arch Presentation

To complete this section, you will be required to provide a 15 - 20 minute oral presentation before the Maryland Lodge of Research or in a regular blue lodge with a member of King Solomon Society in attendance.

Upon completion of the Online Section, you will need to contact the Maryland Masonic Academy to schedule your presentation (email us!) A mentor will be assigned to you in order to help guide you through the presentation.

There are no assigned topics for the presentation. The topic of your presentation is, intentionally, left rather open.  The purpose of this openess is to allow for a Brother to present on a topic that interest HIM!   Here are two examples of presentation topics: Why the Holy Sts. John? and Masonic Symbolism of Dante's Inferno.

You are able to determine the topic (with guidance from your mentor) based off your interests in Masonry!

Upon completion of the Arch Presentation, your name will be added to the Speaker’s Bureau (unless requested not to be added) in order to provide opportunities for lodges to contact you to present in their lodge, if able.

Completion

Upon completion of the Online portion AND the Arch presentation, you will receive a Certificate of Completion which can be presented at your lodge or picked up at the Grand Lodge.

For the Mentors......

Here is the form that you need to fill out after the ARCH presentation has been given.....
